Get started with InstallPass

What InstallPass does for your business, how the free trial works and the best way to spend your first hour in the app.

InstallPass gives every unit you install its own QR service passport. You stick a tag on the geyser, inverter, gate motor, aircon or pump, register the unit on your phone, and the homeowner can scan it any time. They see what was installed, who installed it, the warranty and the next service date, and they can book you again in a few taps.

What InstallPass does for your business

  • Brings customers back to you. Every passport shows your business and your booking options, so the homeowner contacts you when the unit needs attention.
  • Reminds people when a service is due. InstallPass checks your units every morning and sends reminder emails when a service or warranty date is coming up.
  • Keeps a record of your work. Install details, rating plate details and service history live in one place for each unit.
  • Looks professional. Homeowners get a clear record they can find again, with no app and no login.

Sign up and start your free trial

  1. Sign up with the email address you want to use for InstallPass.
  2. Fill in the short setup form: your business name, your phone number and the trades you work in.
  3. Save the form. InstallPass creates your company, makes you the owner and starts your free trial.

Your free trial includes every Pro feature, and you get 10 self-print tags to start with. You can see when your trial ends in the sidebar and under Settings > Plan. Read Free trial and plans for the details.

If your company already uses InstallPass, you don't need to set up a new company. Ask an owner to add you to their team first, then sign in or sign up with the exact email address they added. See Add your team.

Your first hour

On Today you'll find the Get started checklist. It lists the first things to set up. This is the order we recommend:

  1. Complete your profile. Open Settings and fill in your contact details, address, service areas, booking mode and registration numbers. Homeowners see your business details on every passport, so get them right first. See Set up your company.
  2. Print your tags. Open Tags and print a sheet. Plain paper is fine indoors, and weatherproof vinyl label sheets last outdoors. See Print tag sheets.
  3. Register your first unit. Choose a unit you installed recently, or one at your own home or workshop, so you can practise without a customer waiting. Work through the three steps in Register a unit. See Register a unit.
  4. Open a sample passport. See exactly what a homeowner sees when they scan. The quickest way is to click View passport on the unit you just registered, or scan its tag with your phone camera. See What homeowners see.

Once those four steps are done, you're ready to tag units on real jobs.

Take the tour

If you'd like a guided look around, open the Help page and click Take the tour. It walks you through the main parts of the app. The Help page is also where you'll find these guides when you need them.

Working on site

InstallPass runs in your phone's browser as well as on a computer. On a phone, the round Scan a tag button at the bottom right opens your camera, so you can scan a tag and register the unit before you pack up. See Scan a tag.

Tip: Keep a few printed tags in your bakkie. It's much easier to tag and register a unit while you're still on site than to go back later.

The same story in every trade: a tag that stays on the unit is what brings the next job back to the person who fitted it, years after the invoice was paid.

Example
Three geysers I fitted in 2023 came back to me this winter instead of going to whoever was cheapest on Google. The tag was still on the pipe and they scanned it.

Example
The rating plate photo doing the typing is the part my guys actually use. Before this, half the job cards came back with the serial number missing.

Example
A customer phoned about a warranty claim from two years ago. I had the certificate of compliance and the install date on screen before she finished the sentence.
