What homeowners see
What a homeowner sees when they scan a tag: the passport, your business, warranty and service dates, and ways to book you.
Knowing what your customers see helps you explain InstallPass at handover and fill in your details with confidence.
Scanning a tag
Homeowners scan the tag with any phone camera. The passport opens in the phone's browser. There's no app to download and no login.
If the QR won't scan, they can go to installpass.com/t and type the code printed under the QR.
What's on the passport
The public passport shows:
- The unit: what it is, with its details.
- Your business: who installed it and how to reach you, including your registration numbers.
- Warranty status: whether the unit is still under warranty.
- Next service: when the next service is due.
- Service history: the services you've logged on the unit.
Full and Basic visibility
You choose how much each passport shows with Passport visibility on the unit page:
- Full also shows photos, documents and the property address.
- Basic hides photos, documents and the property address.
Customer contact details are never shown on a public passport, whichever option you choose. See Manage your units.
Booking buttons
The passport has buttons so the homeowner can book you. What happens depends on your booking mode:
- Request form: they fill in a short form, the request lands in your Bookings and you get an email.
- WhatsApp: they contact you on WhatsApp.
- Phone call: they phone you.
See Set up your company and Handle booking requests.
Finding all their units
Homeowners can find all their units at installpass.com/my-units using the mobile number you entered when you registered the unit. This is useful if a tag is hard to reach, such as a geyser in the roof.
Because the mobile number is the key, take care to enter it correctly, and update it if the customer tells you it has changed.
Old and replaced tags
If you've replaced a tag, anyone who scans the old tag sees that it's no longer active. The unit's history stays with the new tag. See Replace a damaged or lost tag.
See it for yourself
- Open Units in the app and click a unit.
- Click View passport.
Or scan one of your tags with your phone camera, just as a homeowner would.
Explaining it at handover
A short explanation is all most customers need:
- Show them where the tag is on the unit.
- Ask them to scan it with their own phone so they can see it works.
- Point out the warranty status, the next service date and the booking button.
- Tell them they can find all their units at installpass.com/my-units with their mobile number.
Tip: Suggest the customer saves the passport page to their phone's home screen or bookmarks. It makes finding you again even easier.
