Print tag sheets
Print a sheet of 24 QR tags from the Tags page, on plain paper or A4 label stock, with the right printer settings.
You don't have to wait for a tag order to start tagging units. You can print your own tags on A4 label sheets straight from InstallPass.
What you need
- A printer that prints A4.
- Either plain paper, or weatherproof vinyl label stock made for your type of printer (inkjet or laser).
Plain paper or label sheets
The sheet has a Plain paper and a 24-up label sheet option. Pick one before you print.
- Plain paper is the default. The tags are printed inside a 10 mm margin with dashed cut guides, so no printer clips the edges. Cut along the guides and fix each tag on with clear weatherproof tape.
- 24-up label sheet prints edge to edge to line up with A4 label stock: 24 labels of 70 x 37 mm, 3 across and 8 down. Use this when you buy that label stock.
Paper tags fade and peel quickly on geysers, gate motors and outdoor units. Weatherproof vinyl label stock lasts far longer, so use plain paper to get going and move to label stock for work you want to last.
Print a new sheet
- Click Tags in the sidebar.
- Click Print self-print sheet. InstallPass creates 24 new tag codes for your company and opens the print preview.
- Check the preview. Each label shows a QR with its code printed underneath.
- Load your label sheet into the printer.
- Click Print sheet to print from your browser, or Download PDF to save the sheet and print it later.
- In the print dialog, set the scale to "Actual size" or 100%, then print.
Your new codes are Available and ready to use when you register units.
Get the printer settings right
Labels only line up when the sheet prints at its true size.
- Set the scale to "Actual size" or 100%.
- Turn off options such as "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit".
- Choose A4 as the paper size.
- If you downloaded the PDF, check the same settings in your PDF viewer before you print.
Tip: Before you use a label sheet, print one copy on plain paper. Hold it against a label sheet up to the light to check that each code sits inside its label.
Reprint unused codes
If a sheet misprints, or you need another copy of codes you haven't used yet, don't create new codes. Use Reprint unused instead.
- Open Tags.
- Click Reprint unused.
- Check the preview, then print or download the sheet in the same way.
This prints codes your company already has that aren't linked to a unit, so you don't end up with piles of unused codes.
Printing just one tag
For a single unit you don't need a full sheet. Open the unit and click Print tag. You can print one label on a label printer, or print on a chosen position of a partly used A4 sheet so the rest of the sheet isn't wasted. See Print a single tag.
If a tag on a unit is damaged, faded or lost, see Replace a damaged or lost tag.
If the labels don't line up
- Check that the scale is set to "Actual size" or 100%, not "Fit to page".
- Check that the paper size is A4.
- Check that the sheet type matches what's in the printer: Plain paper or 24-up label sheet.
- Print a test copy on plain paper and compare it with a label sheet.
- If you still have trouble, try Download PDF and print the sheet from a PDF viewer instead of the browser.
Keep your tags in good condition
- Store sheets flat and dry until you use them.
- Handle labels by the edges so the QR stays clean.
- Let inkjet prints dry fully before you peel a label.
